Comparision of male and female Ceriagrion cerinorubellum

MALE FEMALE

A female Ceriagrion cerinorubellum (Brauer, 1865) rainbow colored body kissed with early morning sun.

It is 07:057 AM. Time to wake up. This Ceriagrion cerinorubellum rest (sleep) in this horizontal position in the bush over the night. By the time morning sun rises, morning dew drops grew atop her wings and body. The night has been very calm and still for her.

In the plantation where I'm walking in the early morning breeze, drops of morning dew still linger atop her thorax and wings. Another wonderful moment of mother nature.

The males  arrive early in morning and perch on the tip of the vegetation  beside the stream waiting  for the females. The females come  after the sun rise and  aggregate  near the open stream at the time of reproduction.

Ceriagrion cerinorubellum (Brauer, 1865) 彩虹細蟌 is the most colorful damselfly in Malaysia.  The males  are brightly  colored, orange at the anterior end  and  the tip of the abdomen. This damselfly is common in Sabah region, and males are found in very good number.
