體長34-39mm,雄蟲腹眼紅色,合胸紅紫色,合胸側視具4條黑色的短斜斑,腹部紅色,末端9-10節側邊具黑斑,翅膀透明,翅脈紫紅色。雌蟲複眼上褐下灰,合胸黃褐色側視具4條波狀的斜線斑紋,腹部黃褐色,腹背具黑色的中線,側視兩邊各具一條縱走的粗黑色斑紋。未熟雄蟲近似雌蟲,但腹側及背上無縱走的黑色斑紋容易區分。生活於低中海拔山區之池塘、小溪、溝渠等水域,成蟲於4 - 11月出現,雌蟲以連續點水的方式產卵,為常見的種類。本屬有3種,其中灰脈蜻蜓身份未明。

腹長23-26 mm,後翅長27-30 mm。

成熟的雄蟲全身呈現豔麗的紫紅色,雌蟲和未熟的雄蟲則為黃褐色。

紫紅蜻蜓喜歡停在水域附近突出的枝條上,陽光強烈時,常常可以見到牠們將腹部往上高舉,以減少被曝曬的面積,形成「蜻蜓倒立」的有趣畫面。

紫紅蜻蜓在動物園裡各個水池都可見到,每個水池都可以看到數隻紫紅蜻蜓互相追逐,是非常容易觀察的蜻蜓之一。

腹部長23至26公釐。雄蟲雄蟲全身及翅脈均為紫紅色,翅痣為橙色。未成熟的個體則紫紅色為橙黃色。雌蟲,體色黃色,部背線黑色,側面下方有一條黑色斑。
生活在海拔2000公尺以下地區的池塘、沼澤或緩流小溪環境。成蟲出現於5至11月。是平地與山區的水池邊經常可見的蜻蜓之一

 

註:本屬有3種,為紫紅蜻蜓、樂仙蜻蜓、灰脈蜻蜓。

The presence of Odonata is an indicator of ecosystem quality in the area.  A site that offer a wide variety of microhabitats has more species of Dragonflies and Damselflies.

The head is large with flexible neck bearing well developed compound eyes, three ocelli and a pair of short, bristle-like antennae

WINGS

Adult Odonata possess two pairs  of  long, narrow, and net-veined wings. The wing veins of Odonata are fused at their bases and the wings cannot be folded over the body at rest.
